Final Dissertation

This page contains general guidelines. For the guidelines of the individual Study Courses (CdS), please refer to the specific pages (menu on the left), which you can access from your reserved area.

The dissertation

In order to attain a bachelor's or a master's degree, the students are required to write an original dissertation under the guidance of a supervising professor.

Graduation sessions are held at the university branches of Novedrate, Padua, Florence, Rome, Naples, Bari, Cagliari, Reggio Calabria, Catania and Palermo.

For Master's Degree Courses, the dissertation must be discussed publicly at a graduation session chaired by a special commission.

For Bachelor's Degree courses, with the exception of Biological Sciences, which provides for the discussion of the dissertation as is the case for Master's Degree courses, there is only the proclamation, which takes place in a brief public ceremony.

The Regulations define the terms and procedures for awarding the dissertation and the criteria for identifying the supervising professor.

Students are invited to read Service Order N. 8 on the offence of plagiarism, it should be noted that the Compilatio software also detects suspicious plagiarism rates due to Artificial Intelligence.

Application form

I Corsi di Laurea stabiliscono il The Degree Courses determine the calendar of the degree sessions for each calendar year.

In order to be admitted to the final examination, the students must have passed all the examinations and, in any case, must have obtained all the credits envisaged by the didactic regulations for activities other than the final examination and be in order with the payment of university fees. In this case, it is possible to discuss the dissertation within 90 days following the expiry of the final year of enrolment.

The activities to be performed in order to graduate are:

  • REQUEST A SUPERVISING PROFESSOR: Students must request a Supervisor by completing and sending the appropriate form to the Final Dissertation Desk. The timing of the request and the requirements are defined by the individual Degree Courses.

Clarification of assignment of a supervising professor:

  • When assigning the supervisor, the Final Dissertation Desk assigns the supervisor to the student by indicating a presumed graduation session, not taking into account the expiry date of the annuity, but only the timeframe in which the student submitted the request for the supervisor.

Therefore, it may happen that the presumed date provided by the Final Dissertation Desk is later than the 90th day from the expiry date of the annuity; this does not imply an aprioristic "authorization" of the session, without regularizing the administrative position;

  • The graduation session indicated by the Final Dissertation Desk is always a deemed graduation session, as the student must complete all the required administrative formalities and must receive authorization from the Supervising professor to submit the Degree and Final Dissertation Application in order to attend the graduation session.
  • SUBMISSION OF THE FINAL DISSERTATION TITLE:

1) Following the assignment by the Final Dissertation Desk, the student immediately contacts the professor through the academic Messaging System.

2) As soon as the supervisor receives the first message on the Messaging System, the professor makes the formal assignment via the section Final Dissertation - Student Choice.

3) Via the messaging system, the professor and student define the title of the dissertation

4) Once the title has been defined, the student proceeds to enter the title on Achievement of Title by logging in with their credentials on the portal www.uniecampus.it and clicking on STUDENTS→STUDENT REGISTRY→ TITLE ACCOMPLISHMENT, entering the type of dissertation, the title of the dissertation agreed upon with the supervising and co-supervising professor (if applicable) if it has already been communicated by the supervisor) and confirming the data at the end of the submission.

5) The professor authorizes the title in the assigned undergraduate section (Approve Dissertation Title button under Student) and then via the Approve Dissertation button (PLEASE NOTE: at this stage the professor is not approving the dissertation but the dissertation title).

  • SUBMISSION OF THE GRADUATION APPLICATION AND SUBMISSION OF THE FINAL DISSERTATION: once the students have obtained the approval of the Supervisor for the submission of the Graduation Application and the Dissertation, they may continue the process within the portal in the section for obtaining the degree. They mus first enter the Graduation Application in this section and then proceeds to deposit the dissertation on the platform (upload of the dissertation).

Please note that at this stage the candidates must also send the CHOICE OF ACADEMIC BRANCH FORM.

The process may be considered complete only when the supervising professor proceeds to authorize the submission of the Graduation Application and the Final Dissertation.

At the end of the process, the students must send by registered mail to the Degree Office in Novedrate (Via Isimbardi 10 - 22060 CO), no later than the deadline for the graduation application as per the calendar of graduation appointments:

  • two 16-euro revenue stamps;
  • receipt of the submission of the graduation application;
  • receipt of payment of the administrative fee of 300 euro (payment method);
  • CHOICE OF CHOICE FORM in original

Specific information on the preparation of the final dissertation is available in the Guidelines of the individual Degree Course.

Clarifications on graduation Application and deadline for the submission of the final dissertation:

  • the students may only proceed to submit the Graduation Application and the Final Dissertation only if all the examinations and internship are passed and duly recorded;
  • the students may only attend the graduation session if the supervising professor authorises the Graduation Application and submission of the Final Dissertation and the the Graduation Application.

Annuality deadline for taking the final exam:

As provided for in the Student Regulations art. 11 paragraph 4 “The student up to date with their administrative position and the relevant administrative fees may take the final degree examination by the 90th day following the expiry of their annuity if they:

a) have successfully completed all the examinations envisaged in their study plan at the time of submission of the graduation application and final dissertation;

b) have completed, where foreseen, the internship;

c) have deposited the title of the final dissertation within the prescribed deadline.

Regardless of the number of graduation sessions within the 90-day period, a student may not be automatically placed in a subsequent session, even if it is scheduled a few days after the 90-day deadline; it will therefore be necessary to regularise the candidates' administrative position in advance.

All forms can also be found in the Forms section Forms

Undergraduates' satisfaction survey questionnaire

One of the activities to be carried out in order to graduate is the online completion of the AlmaLaurea End-of-Course Questionnaire, through which it is possible to collect evaluations and judgments regarding the academic experience that is about to come to an end.

The opinions expressed by undergraduates and graduates, for whom full anonymity is guaranteed during data processing and analysis, are very useful for improving the academic teaching and training activities.

Within the "Conseguimento titolo", section of the academic website, before filing your degree application, you will be asked to access the AlmaLaurea portal to fill in the questionnaire. Only then will the system allow you to continue with the procedure for filing your degree application. This check is carried out automatically. It is also possible to download a receipt of completion of the questionnaire from the AlmaLaurea portal, which, in special cases, may be requested by the Student Administration Office.

For information and technical support, please contact the AlmaLaurea Inter-University ConsortiumAlmaLaurea https://www.almalaurea.it/chi-siamo/contatti#studenti-laureati.

All undergraduates are therefore invited to log on to the "Conseguimento titolo" section of the academic website and to access the AlmaLaurea questionnaire in advance of the deadline for filing their graduation application.

Final dissertation

The final dissertation is aimed at verifying the attainment of the educational objectives of the course of study.

The Commission for the Final Dissertation assesses the candidate as a whole, taking into account both the conduct of the final examination and other elements, such as the curriculum of studies completed, the time taken to complete the university course, any transfers from another course of study or university, etc., and applying specific rules independently established by each Course of Study.

The Commission also has a document, provided by the Student Administration Office, known as the graduation statute, in which the starting average is stated; it results from the transformation of the weighted average of marks for the profit examinations into hundredths of a second, which is expressed in thirtieths.

The weighted average relates grades to credits: always excluding aptitudes, each grade is multiplied by the credits of the corresponding examination, the products are added together and this sum is divided by the total number of credits earned through graded examinations; the result is multiplied by “110” and then divided by 30.

The Commission's evaluation is expressed in hundredths.

The test is deemed to have been passed with a minimum mark of 66/110. In the event of a maximum mark (110/110), the Commission may award honours by unanimous decision.

The graduation parchment is prepared and distributed generally within one year. At the appropriate time, the graduate will be notified by e-mail to the last e-mail address provided. It is in any case possible, a few days after the final examination, to obtain degree certificates by accessing the "certificates" section in the reserved area of the eCampus website.
